As a customer service representative one of the questions we get asked often is whether or not you should use Easyboots on all four hooves or just the front. It helps to know what kind of terrain you ride on in order to answer that question for you.
Some things you need to take into consideration are as follows:
- Is your horse freshly barefoot?
If so, he is more likely to be tender and need protection on his hinds.
- What kind of terrain do you ride on?
Rocks and gravel are going to be a lot tougher on your horse’s hooves than sand or softer footing.
- How often do you ride?
If you only ride occasionally and your horse has been bare for a while, you most likely can get away with just booting the fronts. If you ride often, then your horses hooves are likely to wear faster and it would probably be wise to use Easycare boots on the hinds.
- How tough are your horse’s hooves?
Every horse is different and some will have naturally tougher feet then others. The horses with naturally tougher feet will be able to handle much more.
You know your horse best and you are the best person to can make decisions for him. It definitely won’t hurt to use boots like the Easyboot Glove or Epic on all four hooves but it won’t hurt to start with the fronts and see if you eventually need the backs.
If you are going on a trip with unfamiliar terrain or plan to use your horse more then usual then it would probably be wise to boot all fours. Like us, their feet need to toughen up before we can do more than we are used to.
