This month we would like to introduce Melanie Engeler, the founder of Bitsnboots GmbH* in Nesselnbach, Switzerland.
Formerly a hoof trimmer, Melanie saw an opportunity in 2010 to provide a service that would allow her customers to test different styles of hoof boots. From her experience with her own horse, Melanie knew that it could be a difficult process to find the right boots and the right fit for each hoof.
Melanie started to buy used boots from other horse owners so she could use them as test boots for her customers. As Melanie’s inventory expanded, her husband was able to build her an online shop so she could keep her inventory and orders more organized. Bitsnboots was born.
Melanie’s test boot program continues to make Bitsnboots unique today. Customers can test a pair of hoof boots for 7-10 days to make sure the boots will work for their horse. Customers also have the opportunity to rent boots by the month if they feel the size of their horse’s hooves may change over time. The hoof can change quite a bit when iron shoes are first pulled off, for example. The customer can exchange the size and type of product as often as necessary during the rental period. Hoof care practitioners and private horse owners alike value this service that allows them to find the perfect-fitting boots with less financial risk.
Other than Melanie, there is only one other person working at Bitsnboots. Melanie wants to provide a service to all of her customers that is tailored to their specific needs. It’s easier to provide this personalized attention with a smaller staff.
Melanie likes that EasyCare’s extensive product line makes it easy to cover many different hoof shapes and sizes. She also appreciates being able to order EasyCare products online so the whole process is quick and easy.
Melanie has customers that compete in endurance events who are very happy with the Easyboot Glove, and she recommends the Easyboot Cloud to all of her customers with laminitic horses. She always recommends the Old Mac’s G2 with hoof boot studs for three-day eventing because they work so well for horses jumping on wet grass.
Melanie’s passion for helping her clients and their horses is obvious, and her business has continued to grow over the years as a direct result.
