November issue of the Quarter Horse NewsBarefoot performance makes front page headlines of the Quarter Horse News magazine with “Try it Shoeless”.

The November issue of Quarter Horse News features a fantastic article interviewing three high profile competitors who each speak to their reasons for keeping their horses bare. This well written article will have many looking at natural hoof trimming as a very viable option for their performance show horses.

The writer interviewed three very successful riders. Non-pro, reigned cow horse competitor, Carol Roberts, professional cutter, Steve Weis as well as NSHA and NRCHA Non-Pro competitor Shannon McCarty. All three have come to recognize the benefits of barefoot through the expertise of natural hoof care provider and EasyCare dealer Sossity Gargiulo. Sossity, who is is a member of the American Hoof Association and the Pacific Hoof Care Practitioners received some well deserved recognition in the article.

These competitors and many others have been tremendously successful with their horses barefoot and their competition is starting to take notice. The four page article includes an interview and photos provided by Jaime Jackson, and makes well mention of Pete RameyThe Horse’s Hoof and Dr. Deborah Taylor for Auburn University as well as the transition benefits of protective hoof boots.

A side bar to the article mentions that even rodeo professionals are finding the best success maintaining their horses bare and recognized Jordon Peterson’s success and NFR appearance shoeless last December.

As barefoot proponents, we know the health benefits sustained by horses maintained in a natural horse care regime. It’s exciting to see the exposure this article gives barefoot show horses and hopefully encourage others to do the same.

Does your show horse have a barefoot story?  We’d love to hear about it.
