One of the biggest mistakes horse owners can make this time of year is waiting to plan for winter until it’s already here. Your horse’s general care and hoof care needs will change during the winter, and it’s not too early to start planning for colder weather.

Now might be a good time to discuss your winter hoof care plans with your farrier. Remember that hoof growth will slow slightly in the winter months. Make sure you ride smart in colder weather and think about what kind of terrain you will likely be riding on this winter.

You can add EasyCare Horse Boot Studs for extra traction in snow and ice to any of the Easyboots in our pleasure or performance categories. They come in both a 1-inch length for larger boots or a 3/4-inch length for smaller boots.

We wanted to share this article from Equus magazine that was recently updated. Eliza McGraw, the author of Caring for your Horse’s Hooves in Winter, does a great job of explaining “what you need to know about how winter weather can affect hoof health and what you can do to keep your horse sound and happy.”

Stay safe and warm out there!
