EasyCare offers several gluing choices for use with our EasyShoes or Glue-On Easyboots. If you are new to gluing, it can seem difficult to decide which glue to use. How are they different? When would one type of glue be the better choice over another?

Here’s a little more information to compare many of the products found on our Gluing Products page.

Vettec Adhere

Adhere is our most popular, all-around glue. It is a fast-setting, urethane adhesive designed to bond shoes to the hoof and to fabricate large and small hoof wall repairs. Adhere works well in dry climates. The Vettec mixing tips are necessary for use.

  • For use as adhesive
  • 4 week average for glue-on urethane shoes
  • Initial set time of 1 minute and final cure time of 6 minutes
  • Perfect for most every hoof repair application
  • Adhere sets hard with a superior bond, but maintains the flexibility necessary at the quarters and heels to allow the natural movement of the hoof

Vettec Superfast

Superfast is similar to Adhere, but is really intended to build up the hoof wall or create custom shoes. The Vettec mixing tips are necessary for use.

  • For use as adhesive
  • Create a custom shoe in minutes
  • Foal cuffs attached in seconds or custom-made in minutes
  • Small hoof repairs and toe cracks completed quickly
  • Helps to hold thin, brittle hoof walls together

Vettec Equipak Soft

Equipak Soft is just a pour-in pad that can be used with any of our glue-on products. It works particularly well in the toe of the Easyboot Flip Flop. The Vettec mixing tips are necessary for use.

  • For use as pad/packing material
  • About 2X softer than regular Equi-Pak
  • Stays soft (even in cold temperatures)
  • Strong bond to soles sealing out moisture and debris (better than silicones)
  • Use with pads on working horses
  • Perfect for deep commissures and thin soles
  • Can be filled to ground level (w/o a pad) for lameness cases (with limited turnout)
  • Absorbs shock and concussion

Vettec Sole-Guard

Sole-Guard is designed for use without shoes and stays bonded to the feet for 2-3 weeks of light riding (more strenuous riding may shorten this time). This technique is not recommended for use on sore, lame or very thin-soled feet. The Vettec mixing tips are necessary for use.

  • For use as pad/packing material
  • Apply directly to the sole and frog
  • Fast and convenient
  • Bonds to the foot for 2 weeks
  • Provides protection and support
  • Great for providing support for heavy, late-term brood mares
  • Temporary protection for horses transitioning from shoes to barefoot
  • Can be used as a thin protective layer on the shod foot

EasyShoe Bond

EasyShoe Bond sets up relatively slowly and works well in humid climates. Copper Sulfate can be added to help deter thrush. You can also mix in concrete dyes to add some color. Mixing tips are available, but not necessary. Bond can also be mixed in a disposable cup.

Sikaflex

Sikaflex is not a glue, but is a sticky packing material. It takes 24 hours to set up, and it stays soft even after it finishes setting. We don’t recommend using it in any of our products other than the Easyboot Glue-On shell. Sikaflex fits in a regular caulking gun, and no tips are needed.

  1. Thanks for the explanation of each type, and for putting the video right in the post too. Very helpful!

  2. We cannot overstress the importance of getting the right fit for your horse. Before ordering a hoof boot or shoe for your horse, take a precise measurement and consult the product size chart.

    • Thank you for this reminder, Wallace. Precise measurements are definitely the key to being able to use EasyShoes or Easyboots effectively.
