Three years ago, we got a 16.3 hand gelding named Giggles. Giggles kept losing shoes, much more than our other horses, he had a reoccurring abscess that made it difficult to keep him in work.
Giggles couldn’t go a week without losing a shoe. His hooves were full of nail holes from reapplying shoes. They were cracked and chipped from walking without a shoe. That’s when I found EasyCare on Facebook and decided to call and ask about shoes for barrel racing. My wife and I found EasyCare’s staff to be very pleasant and informative. EasyCare recommended the EasyShoe Speed Metal glue-on to give him stability without nailing.
We cannot say enough about how happy we are with our decision to switch to glue-on EasyShoes. We worked with our farrier to trim and install the shoes. Admittedly, it was a bit of a learning curve. Giggles initially lost a shoe after a couple weeks because he clipped the back of a front shoe with his rear hoof. After another discussion with EasyCare’s helpful staff, we learned that the shoes are designed to be customized to the horse’s hoof shape and we ended up rasping some length off the shoe, which helped a ton. We went from losing a nail on shoe every 3-4 days to going 3-6 weeks without losing a shoe.
Giggles is a big boy for a barrel horse and pretty powerful. The EasyShoe Speed Line gives him great footing/traction on all types of ground surfaces from arenas to turf race tracks to muddy and rocky trails.
The Speed Metal Trac made a last minute decision to go skijoring so simple. EasyCare worked with us to make sure our order was shipped promptly and I was able to install them myself the day before the race. The integrated stud holes made installing and removing studs at the race a breeze.
Giggles ended up in 2nd place – not bad for his first time skijoring!
We like these shoes so much that we are going to use them on my wife’s new horse.
