Are EasyShoes reusable? Yes!

Depending on the environment and workload of the horse, you can often get a few resets per pair if removed carefully.

To maintain the integrity of the cuff, use hoof nippers to grab the edge of the cuff and slowly pull away from the hoof wall. You can also use clinch cutters to separate the cuff from the hoof wall. The key is to slowly pull the cuff away from the hoof wall little by little to prevent the cuff from breaking. Below is a demonstration removing the EasyShoe Versa Grip Glue.

After you remove the shoes, give them a quick cleaning before resetting for another trim cycle. The goal is to remove dirt and dried up glue from the shoes. There are many methods that work, including warm water and dish soap, a wire hoof brush, a Dremel, or a grinder. You may also utilize HoofLox Hoof & Shoe Cleaner to remove oils from the shoe’s surface.

Here is a demonstration using a Dremel, grinder, and HoofLox Hoof & Shoe Cleaner.

Here are a few popular Dremel attachments used by farriers. We recommend using a 9931 bit.

You can also use a Wire Hoof Brush to get the big clumps of dirt off. Washing the shoes in water helps remove any oils from the inside of the cuffs for better shoe retention. See how to clean Finger Tabs for a reset.

How many resets can you expect? While it is common to get 1 or 2 resets, this is dependent on the environment, the horse’s workload, and the way the horse moves/wears the shoe. We have seen a single pair of Versa Grip Glues reset up to 7 times! Your farrier can use their best judgement and decide if the shoe has enough wear left for a reset.
