Trying to choose between acrylic or urethane adhesives? Both of these gap-filling adhesives work well with our cuff-style EasyShoes and your decision may come down to personal preference. Here are a few factors to consider before choosing an adhesive.

1) Cartridge size. HoofLox Acrylic is offered in a 150ml cartridge (comparable to Equilox Stubbie).

HoofLox Urethane is offered in a 200ml cartridge (comparable to Vettec Adhere). These smaller tubes will glue 2-3 feet on average.

HoofLox Platinum (premium acrylic) is offered in a 420ml cartridge (comparable to Bond Glue). The larger glue size will allow you to do more hooves, 6-8 hooves on average.

2) Dispensing gun. Do you already own a dispensing gun? If so, you may choose to pick an adhesive that will work with the tools you already own. HoofLox Acrylic will work with any 150ml dispensing gun. It will also work with a standard caulking gun from your local hardware store when you add the HoofLox Adapter for Standard Caulk Gun.

HoofLox Urethane will work with any 200ml dispensing gun, including the Vettec Adhere 210cc dispensing gun.

HoofLox Platinum will work with a 420ml dispensing gun including the Bond Glue dispensing gun.

3) Color. HoofLox Acrylic is offered in Black and Natural, providing options for light and dark colored hooves. The Natural is nearly transparent, making it a good choice for striped hooves.

HoofLox Urethane is offered in Black, making it a great choice for dark hooves.

4) Set time. The difference in set time is very comparable for HoofLox Acrylic and HoofLox Urethane. HoofLox Platinum is available in Fast Set and Slow Set. Fast Set is ideal in colder weather when glue naturally sets slower, and Slow Set is ideal in warmer weather when glue naturally sets faster. The warmer the exterior temperature, the faster the glue will set.

5) Flexibility. Acrylic adhesives tend to be more flexible, allowing it to move with the hoof. Urethane adhesives are more rigid. If there is a lot of torque, urethane adhesives may crack in some cases, whereas acrylic is a little more forgiving.

6) Environment. Based on customer feedback, generally, acrylic adhesives work better in wet, humid environments. Urethane adhesives can be successful in wet environments, but hoof prep plays a big role. Acrylic is a more beginner friendly adhesive because it is more flexible and forgiving in these tricky environments.

These are a few factors that can help you decide which glue is right for you. If you are new to gluing and want to match the adhesive color to the hoof, HoofLox Acrylic may be best for you. If you are an experienced gluer and don’t need a natural color adhesive, HoofLox Urethane may work well for you.
