Peanut is a 3yo paint gelding with a recent history of off and on lameness, an abscess that blew, along with testing sensitive everywhere with hoof testers. He’s been barefoot, shod, and recently in the Easyboot Cloud. He has also been uncooperative at farrier appointments, likely due to a combination of discomfort and 3yo shenanigans.

I offered his family, and his farrier, Payton Bergin of Double Aught Equine, any assistance or glue-on products, as he likely could not tolerate any nailing. We all came together for an appointment at Arctic Equine & Livestock Veterinary Hospital for a sedation assisted appointment with Dr. Cherise Neu.

Historically, he was more comfortable with more sole depth. Payton trimmed him, removing dorsal hoof wall distortion, and ensured he had medial lateral balance. We fit his front hooves in a pair of EasyShoe Versa Grip Glues with the Versa Grip Rocker. A 6mm Medium Density Comfort Pad was added across heels and frog to help caudally load and add support.

For his hinds, we did not have X-rays, but we suspected NPA/alignment issues. A squishy 3-degree pad was used to help alignment, support his heels and overall general comfort due to his long term lameness, and body compensation. Due to sedation, we had limited time for additional modifications, and selected a quick curing glue: VetTec FastSet.

We were very happy how he was noticeably more comfortable right away.

He has remained sound for his hand walking, and has graduated to extended turnout time.
