Broken cable Welcome to 2011! If you are like me you probably have quite a few things on your bucket list to accomplish this year or things that simply must get done. With winter set in hard across most of the continent, now may be the perfect time to end the procrastination and get caught up on any hoof boot repairs that need to be tackled.

Hoof boots are no different than any other piece of tack. A routine inspection of all boot hardware is mandatory. One of the great things about the EasyCare line of hoof boots is that all the hardware can be replaced; no need to purchase a whole new boot. Obtain the needed part in the correct size (most of the parts are size/boot specific), make your repair and your are back in business.

The Easyboot, Epic, Grip and original Easyboot all have an adjustable cable/buckle system. Cables do wear out and can break and fray with use. Replacements are available as just the cable only or as a cable/buckle kit. Remember the cable lenghts are size specific. More on this later.

This quick video shows how to preform a cable repair if you have a 2005 and newer boot. You ask, “How do I know how old my boot is”? The 2005 and newer boots have screws in the first side holes of the boot; no rivets on the side

If your boot is pre 2005 and has rivets attaching the buckle or on the side of the boot then you will need to do things a bit differently. Here are the instructions for this style of boot or give us a call and we will send you more detailed instructions.

Do you ever find you need a smaller cable than what you have stocked on your truck? No problem. Here is a handy chart for cable lengths for the Pre-2005, 2005+ and the EasyUp buckles so you can cut your own from one of the larger cables you do have. Yippee ki-yay you just saved the day!

You can also shorten these length’s by ½” to 1” if you need a tighter cable. This is especially useful when fitting a horse with a steep hoof angle.
