The Maryland Mustang Mission is a newly formed non-profit that raises awareness for BLM and USFS mustangs. MMM hosts an annual Extravaganza (formerly known as the Mustang TIP Challenge) as well as a mustang open show to showcase the versatility of these horses. Competitors have the choice to compete in-hand or ridden.

Competitors travel from all over the country to show the progress they’ve made with their mustangs. EasyCare Customer, Amelia, recently traveled from New Hampshire with her mustang, Atlas, to compete in the competition.

“Mustang feet are notorious for being tough and not needing shoes, but that doesn’t always take into account conformation faults or rough terrain they live on.

Atlas is a 5 year old mustang from the Utah dessert. Although he has strong feet, he lives on a rocky hill and doesn’t have the best front leg conformation. We were starting to do some more ridden work on the roads and I wanted to give him some extra protection, so I decided to try the EasyShoe Versa Grip Octo.

I trim all my mustangs myself and I knew I didn’t want to try conventional steel shoes. I had heard about EasyCare’s glue-on shoes on social media prior to trying them with Atlas, but I had no true experience using them.

After our first few rides, I could immediately tell how much more comfortable he was. He had significantly more reach in his step and was much more forward and willing to work. They stand up well to his rough pasture, playing with his herd mates, and our hilly trails.

I like the reliability of being able to adjust and apply them myself easily. Not only are they affordable, but if he were to pop a tab or lose a shoe, I’m able to reapply in a pinch unlike a steel shoe.

I hope in the future more horse owners move to alternative shoeing styles such as glue-ons. Not only are they significantly more shock absorbing than traditional steel shoes, but they have endless possibilities with how easy they are to adjust.”
