EasyCare has decided to name our new hoof boot line the Easyboot Fury after an Arabian gelding that has not only been an inspiration for a new kind of endurance boot, but has been part of the innovation team by putting in hundreds of trail-tested miles over the last 10 years. Fury has been testing EasyCare hoof boots since 2009 and has completed 32 endurance events with 16 Best Conditions and 12 first place finishes.
When EasyCare’s first hoof boot hit the market in 1970, it was the only commercially available hoof protection product and it was a challenge to prove how a non-traditional hoof protection product could compete in a very traditional industry. After taking the helm of EasyCare in 1993, I personally made sure we worked hard to see horses succeed and often excel in boots and composite shoes. It’s been an interesting journey and I am proud of the huge advancements EasyCare has made in hoof protection. It’s a legacy that deserves to continue – and does with our new boot.
I am always thinking of ways to continually innovate hoof protection. We’ve proven the concept, now how can we take it to the next level? Make it be more durable yet comfortable. More flexible but stable. Easier to apply but stay on through changing conditions. As more manufacturers enter the hoof boot industry, some of them past EasyCare product testers, distributors and users, it’s pushing all of us to make hoof boots better.
The Easyboot Fury is not only better, it’s the best hoof boot we’ve ever made and you’re going to see why.
But first, the name…
This boot is so exciting that we knew it deserved a name that represents EasyCare’s legacy of endurance in the hoof protection industry. And we wanted it to be named after a horse that has helped prove the hoof boot concept. A horse that has helped put hoof boots on the map. A horse that has competed in each event in hoof boots. A horse with presence. A horse with an exceptional record and a great story.
I had some ideas, but I really wanted to hear from people who know EasyCare, our story, and our family. After asking for suggestions on my personal Facebook page, the response was clear – “Far,” an exceptional horse that belonged to Kevin Meyers and “The Fury,” my personal horse. Both horses have perfect 100% completion rates in the sport of endurance. They won the prestigious 100 Mile Tevis Cup and the prestigious Haggin Cup. And both are still going down the trail sound and happy after 10+ years of competition. Far and The Fury are both deserving of the honor, so this boot will be named after Fury and the next boot to be designed will be named after Far.
Why Fury is our best hoof boot yet
The key feature that differentiates this boot from all others is its adjustable length and height. The new concept is built around a shell that has slot in the insole. The slot receives a heel counter that allows 30mm of length adjustment. The two work in conjunction to allow different adjustments in heel lengths.
Four different models have undergone strenuous field testing:
Easyboot Fury Glue-On. The glue-on shell has a slot in the back of the boot and is longer than our traditional glue-on shell. The slot is filled with different densities of cushion to soften or stiffen the heel area of the boot. The length of the shell can be cut and reduced or left long for additional support.
Easyboot Fury Pivot. After the heel cushion is selected, apply the gaiter and it functions like the Easyboot Glove. The major difference is a beefed up gaiter that pivots with the hoof and with each foot fall. Apply the gaiter in different hole positions to accommodate different heel lengths. The length of the shell can be cut and reduced or left long for additional support.
Easyboot Fury Heart. The heel counter allows for different adjustments in heel length. After the heel length is determined lock down the screws and adjust the heel sling to the proper height. Both the heel sling and heel counter are locked into place after the first fitting. Application and removal are quick and easy. No hook and loop, no cables, lightweight and easy to wash.
Easyboot Fury Lite. A minimalist design that still allows adjustment in heel length and heel height. After the heel length is determined, lock down the screws and adjust the heel sling to the proper height. Both the heel sling and heel counter are locked into place after the first fitting. No hook and loop, no cables, lightweight and easy to wash.
The Easyboot Fury line is coming soon. We are making molds, grading sizes and sourcing some new hardware pieces. We are expecting an early 2019 launch and will be showing the current testing samples at endurance events and shows. We are very excited about the new line and expect to release other models on the shell chassis.
