Easyboot Glue-Ons going over Cougar Rock at the 100-Mile Tevis Cup.

The Easyboot Glue-On shell is a great tool that can be used by horse owners, farriers, and vets. Although the product looks very simple, it has many uses that can help a horse by improving hoof health. Although we continue to find new uses for the shell, here are six helpful uses that have been proven again and again.

1. Riding in Endurance Events

Glue the boots in place and go win the 100-Mile Tevis Cup. The 100-Mile Tevis Cup is said to be the most difficult 100-mile race in equine sports. The 100-Mile Tevis Cup winners in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019 used Easyboot Glue-On Shells on all four of their horse’s hooves.

Even more prestigious than winning the 100-Mile Tevis Cup is to win the coveted Haggin Cup. The Haggin Cup is given to the horse judged to be in the best condition the morning following the 100-mile event. Haggin Cup winners in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019 used Easyboot Glue-On shells on all four hooves.

2. Treating an Abscess

One of the best methods I’ve found to treat an abscess is to use an Epsom Salt Poultice inside the Easyboot Glue-On. I use athletic tape around the hoof, slather the hoof in Epsom Salts, and then press the shell on. The shell keeps the Epsom Salt in place while keeping the hoof clean.

3. Creating a Customized Fit

Are you working on a difficult hoof shape? The Easyboot Glue-On shell can be heat-fitted to achieve a custom fit. Check out this blog post to read more about how to apply Easyboots using this heat-fitting method.

4. Treating Hoof Wall Separation & Chipped Feet

When farriers have nothing to nail to, an Easyboot Glue-On shell can keep a horse going.  The photo sequence below shows a horse suffering from hoof wall separation. This horse was stall-bound and unable to compete. After the shells were installed, the horse not only went back to full competition, but won many events.

5. Transitioning Out of Traditional Shoes

As horses transition out of traditional shoes, the Easyboot Glue-On will allow the nail holes to grow out, protect sensitive soles, and keep the horse as comfortable as possible. Horses fresh out of traditional shoes will be able to continue comfortably in their respective disciplines with the help of Easyboot Glue-Ons.

The foot is protected during the transition out of iron shoes.

6. Adding a 5-Degree or 10-Degree Wedge

The EasyCare Therapy Click System can snap into the bottom tread of the Easyboot Glue-On shell to change hoof mechanics. The Click System can be added and removed without removing the shell from the horse’s hoof. A vet may recommend adding a 5 or 10-degree wedge for any number of hoof pathologies, or simply to relieve pressure. We are seeing this system used very successfully to help brood mares in their last uncomfortable months.
