We purchased Penny two years ago knowing she had a chronic history of foundering. We spent the first two summers having shoes set on her fronts and left her barefoot for the winters. I came across the Old Mac’s boot through horse supply magazines and finally purchased a pair last summer. They sat in my barn for the rest of the year and when it came time that we were going to have to do something about Penny’s feet again ($80 for a trim and front shoes) I dragged out the box and decided to give them a try. It was staggering! She never once gimped or miss-stepped going down the dirt roads. The best part of all was that she didn’t have to be in shoes 24/7. No more hammering nails into her hooves, which really did hurt given her past condition. The boots have made a huge difference for Penny and her care.

They were amazing in the way she trail rode in them. They take time to put on as I have to completely hose her feet down and clean them out (we have a problem with mud by the barn), but to be able to leave her barefoot when not being ridden and for her to NOT have to go through the pain of having nails pounded into her hooves to hold a shoe every 6 – 8 weeks during the summer is sooooo worth the time and effort of putting them on.

Penny is a Fjord/Qrt cross mare that we bought on Memorial Day. She is now 12 and with extreme care for her feeding, she has not had an issue with us. My almost 13 year old daughter has shown her for the past two years for the Eaton Rapids Junior Equestrian team. She placed 5th her first year and 3rd this past Spring. She has been a huge blessing to our family in teaching my daughters to ride and we’ve taken her to a birthday party for a handicap child. She’s a wonderful mare!
