Maike's Perfect Horse Hoof Boot Would Be... Custom-Fit Boots For All Of Us

My perfect horse hoof boot would be a boot like the Glove that can be heat-fitted. It should be easy to put on and take off, and stay where you put it! I'm thinking of a shell that goes malleable when immersed in hot water, for example. It would allow the perfect fit even for feet outside the norm. If the foot changes shape over time, the intial fitting process could be repeated. I would like the sole (but not the tread) to be malleable as well. Adjusting the sole to follow the foot’s natural concavity could create more traction and would also reduce peripheral loading inside the boot without having to use pads. How about you come up with a material and idiot-proof method to do custom fitting at home? Pete Ramey has shown the way already with the Gloves and his heat gun.

The picture shows me on my Icelandic gelding out on a hack in southern England. We also participate occasionally in local shows and BHS Trec. I boot up with Gloves for rocky terrain and they are doing a great job, though I’m looking forward to the wide Glove for an even better fit on the front feet.
